Intercon Mid-Atlantic 2007

Meh. I'll skip the traffic annoyances. (Although, how Monday became the "start of the Thanksgiving holiday season" is beyond me. Have to consider flying next year.) Also, the failure of citabria's car that put a downer on the tail end of the return trip, which she and I have already written about.

The hotel was good and a little colder than comfortable but nothing I didn't expect from being in Rehoboth Beach last year, I didn't expect it to be great. There was hot water for showering, which always forgives many, many sins. On the other hand, we apparently won the random draw when we checked in and our room had a whirlpool tub. Score! (Especially since the one in our condo is still not done yet.)

We only wandered around a little bit--it was nippy outside--and we got to have breakfast at the Robin Hood a few times. We also found out where Dos Locos moved so we could have crab and lobster burritos Sunday night. Yum. :)

I still didn't feel like any Friday night games up until pre-reg closed down. And it was good I didn't because we were late getting in, anyway. So, it was good to see/hug/schmooze/wave at/have deep conversations with friends, hang out and relax. (Both of us needed this weekend off from our respective stressors.) I drank enough between dinner and said schmoozing to feel buzzed but not stupid, so it was a good time. Saturday night's party was a scary weird seventies mix (plus some other stuff thrown in) and I mostly talked and only danced a little toward the wee hours.

But Intercon is LARP and Saturday and Sunday were full of it! :-D
  • "A Serpent of Ash" never got off the ground. (In thinking about it later, we really should have just started and gone with it but many of us sidetracked into talking about "Happily Ever After" to think of it.)
  • "Happily Ever After" made up for it, though. This was set in Willingham's "Fables" universe and there was plenty of stuff going on that seemed to keep everyone busy. I played Flycatcher, the Frog Prince, which was cool because I like the character in the stories and had fun with him. He did get trapped in the well, though, which was suckful but he got rescued and even got married to a nice girl in the end. I had a lot of fun.
  • "The Raggedy Edge" was, um, a LARP that ran on Saturday night. It was nice to walk around in the "Firefly" universe for a bit.
  • "And They Were As Gods", a LARPA contest entry winner, was a lot of fun, too. I can't say too much about it that isn't spoilery but it took off in a bizarre direction that I should have seen coming. However, I was playing one of the straight men* in this game and working on my own straightforward, slightly evil, and devious plan to see what was going on. Which worked. Totally.
So, on balance, I had a good, relaxing, LARPy time with friends and that's what I expected so I'm glad we went.
