Nuuk Youth Hostel, 9:19 AM EST+2
I had nothing to do yesterday so I lie down in my bed and accidentally fell asleep for about three hours. I woke up every few minutes like “wtf did I fall asleep? Oh well, *snore*”. I got up around 6 and went into town to use the internet at the hotel. I used that for a bit for $11/half hour but then found out it was much cheaper at a nearby café. I went there and it was $9.75 for a whole hour. I ended up staying there for like two hours.
I had a huge ordeal; I went to the store about a quarter mile down the street to try to find a USB microphone to use with Skype because my microphone port isn’t working. They had a Microphone/camera combo and I didn’t know whether the mic was USB. I was thinking about buying it and realized I forgot my wallet at the café. I ran like hell back there and found it on the chair I’d been sitting on. Luckily my wallet was leather like the couch and the same color. I walked all the way back to the store to find that the microphone was, in fact, not USB. I walked back to the café and dealt with talking to Rose over Skype where I could see and here her and she couldn’t see or hear me. I just typed on AIM, lol it was the weirdest form of communication.
I came back to the hostel and found Dad, and we had dinner. The night before we’d had whale meat which tasted like a combination between fish and steak. Last night we had fish, which was ok but not terrific. We went back out around 10 and went to two different bars. Neither of them was very fun. The first one was full of smoking Greenlanders who gave us weird looks for being there and American. They had a live band which sounded like some Greenlandic country music, which made Dad happy hah. I asked someone if there was a place nearby with younger people, and they said the Manhattan Night Club around the corner. I went there and Dad left immediately because it was a disco-type club with loud music and lights. I only stayed another ten minutes because there weren’t many people there and no one was my age. I came back and went to sleep.
We leave at 1:05 today for Illulisaat and we’ll be there for three nights. Apparently Ilulissat is the biggest tourist destination on the island, even though Nuuk is bigger.
Hopefully there will be cheap internet there, but we’ll see. Later!
Ilulissat Youth Hostel, 7:44 PM EST+2
Internet here is $18 for two hours, which isn’t bad. The only annoying thing is I can’t use my computer. I have to use theirs. I might just disconnect the cat5 and hook it up to my computer and see if that works. Probly will but I might get yelled at.
It was sweet, our flight took half an hour less than it was posed to because we were supposed to make a stop in Sisimuit but the weather was too bad and it was too foggy to land so we had to go straight on to Ilulissat.
We got here around 3:15 and took a taxi to the youth hostel. Not much different, kind of like the places we’ve been staying. Same with the city. Not too much different from Nuuk, just smaller. Big grocery store, lots of tourists.
I read a lot on the plane and a lot when I got here. I must have read like 250 pages today, I finished the book I was reading. It was Dangerous Angels, a book of five mini-books called the Weetzie-Bat books. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys sappy fairy-tales hah.
Ok well, time to go gank the internet and post this. Byeee. (Oooo it worked. Yay!)
