Knock Knock

At work, my colleagues and I use Skype to IM each other, and I'm in the habit of typing "knock knock" to someone just to see if they're at their desk and in a position to answer some questions. But at first, I would get a lot of people asking "who's there?"-- which is odd, because my Skype ID has my name, and we work together, so they already know. IM is like having a huge window in your door, you know? You don't need to squint through a dirty peephole.

So I made a list for myself of handy answers, such as "Anita... ask you a question, got a minute?" or "Ivana... ask you a question, got a minute?"

But the temptation is strong to take the joke in the wrong direction. Answer with "Just open the goddamned door, they're after me!"

Or "You didn't think that I was going to pay attention to that restraining order, did you?"
