I don't know very much about Ethiopia but here is some advice:

1) Ethiopians dance with their shoulders. The rest of Africa dances with their ass. Bear this in mind at social gatherings. If it looks like someone's having a seizure, think twice before you start cradling their head and removing hazards from the area.

2) From my PeaceCorps friend: "It is said that when they send you to Asia you return a Buddhist, when they send you to Latin America you return a communist, and when they send you to Africa you return a drunk". Bear this in mind at social gatherings.

3) I cannot stress this enough: for the love of God, take precautions if you are sleeping with anybody over there-another volunteer or an Ethiopian. When you volunteer overseas there tends to be a bit of "summer camp effect" in the sense that other Canadians will look way hotter than they ordinarily would, and they're all stressed out and the weather's hot and they're on an adventure...it's a hook-up recipe. Also many women may want to marry you. A lot. Just take every single precaution against HIV/AIDS, please.
