In case I can't get into grad school for biomedical mathematics here at FSU, it has been my Plan B (TM) to become a teacher and get my masters in education online. I attribute part where I am today to my precalc teacher. If I can't get into research to make the world a better place, then at least I can inspire others to go out and do so. I had my share of shitty highschool teachers too, and I know I could do a better job than half of them could.
So with all of this in mind, I had requested more information online from American Intercontinental University. This lady from the admissions department calls me up today to give me a short phone interview. I start telling her about my associates degree in physics, my research here at FSU, and that I'm going to be getting my degree in the interdiscilplinary field of biomedical mathematics. Right after I mention that last part, she goes: "Oh wait, you don't have your bachelors yet? Why don't you finish that up and then get back to us. Thanks, goodbye... *click*". What the fuck dude?! I almost started laughing. So now not having a bachelors degree automatically disqualifies a person from considering grad school until after they have graduated? This was my first real contact with an online school, and this left a really bad taste in my mouth. Heaven forbid I ACTUALLY THINK ABOUT MY FUTURE and grad school before I'm actually finished with my undergraduate studies!!111oneone What I don't understand is how these people can ask ~20,000 for a masters degree and yet have stupid policies like that. Right now I'd be more inclined to use my 20,000 as toliet paper than to use it to pay AIU and encourage this sort of stupidity.
