Once upon a time, there was a cactus who lived alone in the middle of the desert. The cactus always looked so intimidating, with it’s many thorns, and made the other plants afraid to talk to it.
The cactus, though, just stood by in it’s loneliness, always facing the sun. He knew that the other plants were scared of him, but he couldn’t do anything about it because the thorns were a part of his body. In his loneliness, he fell in love with the sun, the only being who was friendly with him and would smile brightly at him every day.
One night, something happened suddenly. A huge desert storm crashed through, attacking everything. All of the plants were crying, afraid that this would be their last night on earth. But the cactus surprised them all.
He stood in the middle of the storm, stretching out all his branch and taking the brunt of the force, protecting all of the other plants. His body was being sliced to pieces by the wind. When the storm ceased, the other plants could see that the cactus was dead.
They all cried, and rain cascaded down on the desert to show their condolences, and was the only rainstorm that ever happened in that desert. They now know that the cactus was a kind plant. It was too bad that they figured it out too late.
Meanwhile, God The Ruler, the god who ruled over the area, could hear their grief and wanted to give a gift to the cactus’ soul. A gift for his sacrifice.
So, he called down to the cactus and spoke to him,
“You have already sacrificed yourself for the lives of others, and thus I shall give you a gift. I will send your soul to return to this earth one hundred years from now. I will transfer your soul into a human being, because you have proven that you have the kindness of a human heart. I will also give you two more gifts. Instead of living a life of loneliness in the desert, you will be able to live a festive life at sea. I will also send you your true love, the sun, in human form. He will accompany you in your second life. You will recognize him by his golden hair. However, you need to be patient with the sun, because his personality may tend to sting, just like it’s light…”
After the god was finished, he kept the cactus’ soul in his hand, putting him to sleep until the day to be reborn again occurred...
