'The unselfishly motivated rapist is perhaps stranger than other sex offenders. Whereas a selfish offender is the typical marauding brute that we expect of conquering armies, physically and verbally abusing his victim, taking what he wants with no concern for the man or woman he is assaulting, the unselfish offender is different. Most adult males have rape fantasies from time to time, particularly about women who are authority figures in their lives, bosses, higher ranking co-workers, teachers, professors, the significant others of older male relatives, etc., however, non-sex offenders are not prone to unselfish thoughts during such fantasies. Rather, these fantasies play out more like rough sex where, most often, the initial resistance of the female subject is broken down and shown to be little more than the repression of desire, at which point both man and woman begin to enjoy the rough sexual encounter. Both parties are expected to get what pleasure they can from the encounter without an expectation that either will actively attempt to give pleasure to the other.
'As such, most people have a basic understanding of the selfish sex offender and it forms a sort of baseline stereotype which we expect to encounter more or less intact in any sexual assault.
'This makes the unselfish offender basically an insidious creature and one who may leave his victims with more psychological trauma in the long run because of the conflict present between his bearing and his behavior. Whereas the selfish offender may allow the victim to self masturbate at most, The unselfish offender will often attempt to bring his victim to climax, perform cunnilingus on her, attempt to stimulate her with his fingers during foreplay, and will often be open to suggestion from the victim. Many victims of an unselfish offender may discover that she is able to get him to do basically anything she asks, and on several occasions the quick thinking victim of such an attacker has asked him to leave and return later. During which interval the police were called, of course.
'The unselfish offender will often try to make his victim more comfortable, asking if he is causing her pain or if she is cold and altering his behavior based on her response. They often use fake or unloaded weapons in their assaults, and may put them down during the course of the assault within the reach of their victims.'
