I just got back from my family's annual trip to the ballet. Every year my parents and I go to see the Nutcracker. This year it was at the new
Four Seasons Centre, which is a great place. Buildings like that are great, because Toronto is full of very similar looking buildings (like the blocky rectangular ones that fill the downtown core) and Toronto needs more buildings that have more glass and aren't the traditional shape. The inside of the building is great too, with "floating stairs" and bridges that span the 4 storey atrium. Other renovations to the AGO and ROM will also lend some unique architectural touches to Toronto's buildings.
As for the ballet itself, it's the same version of the Nutcracker that's been performed since 1995, but some of the small changes from last year made it more enjoyable. The music is great, as usual, with all of the memorable songs from the traditional Nutcracker. As well, the dancing was great, as you really felt a connection to the Nutcracker and Sugar Plum Fairy.
If anyone else is going to see it this Christmas season, I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
