Five Seizures

Jul 18, 2005 15:28

~11:15AM, duration unknown
11:32AM, ~2 minutes
11:38AM, ~2 minutes
11:52AM, ~2 minutes
12:02PM, ~1.5 minutes

First seizure occurred while no one was home - Mark came across a puddle of saliva and found Murphy engaging in post-seizure behavior (pacing, nervousness, walking into walls). He estimated that the seizure had occurred just minutes before.

Second seizure occurred in the living room, the third in the bathroom, the fourth in the back yard and the fifth in the car on the way to Temperance Animal Hospital. With the exception of the fifth seizure, all seizures observed were violent and accompanied by severe arching and paddling, and copious drooling. Murphy lost control of bladder and bowel function during the third seizure. Post seizure behavior included loss of sight, disorientation, extreme restlessness and failure to respond to either verbal or hand commands.

By the time he arrived at TAH, he was too weak to stand on his own and had to be carried in. His temperature at admission was 105F.

Murphy is currently under close observation at TAH. Dr. Hanusz administered Valium and IV Phenobarb. At last check, his condition was stable and his temperature was back down to normal (100.5F). He will remain at TAH until about 7PM this evening, at which time we will discuss a possible change in his medication, most likely to a combination of Phenobarb and Potassium Bromide.
