all things quantum

i want to go back to school and completely blow the doors wide open on the furthering of my education.  man i am completely in lust with quantum mechanics.  i absolutely adore physics.  man.  chemistry rocks it pretty hard too though.  chemical engineering, or for that matter, quantum mechanical engineering would just be fucking rad as hell.

i am blown away by BEC...can't get my mind around it but hey that's what the hell quantum does to physics anyhow, turning science on its ear and all that shit.  fucking genius bose einstein condensate.  goddamn.

in relation to all things wonderful and steps in human history that inspire me and shake me down....I am quite saddened at the loss of Sir Edmund Hillary.  Now, I can't profess to have known the dude personally and all- he could have been a big blowhard windbag  for all i know- but still.  he did it.  he reached that ruthless man eating summit first....at least that we know of in this modern age (sorry, Mallory, ol' chap).

and while i have my own selfish climber-fetish sights set on Everest, I do quite agree that the mass commercialization of the mountain is its own death.  its own slow agonizing polluted disgraceful death.  in this day and age any pompous middle aged ASS with 60-70k can enjoy the privelege of having their over confident behinds carted up the peak by any of the few world renowned guides.  (no matter that their sherpa who are paid the meager amount of $3-4k a year, risking their lives to sate the Westerner's unceasing arrogant appetite to have conquered the world's worst, literally carry the lion's share.)

What I love about Everest in Hillary's day is that it was gut wrenching exertion and extreme physical fitness and climbing skill that got you to that summit.  You earned it, not paid for it like it was some fucking happy meal any idiot could buy.  It was elusive, it was romantic.  it was treacherous, it was rare to master it.  nowadays nothing is rare, and everything is mainstream.  the majority of the modern world believes that whatever it is that you want, money can buy it for you.  everything has been done to death and it makes me sick.

props to you, Sir Ed.
