As many of you fine folks know, I'm a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance. It's the only "reality show" that I watch, and I've always enjoyed it because it focuses on the dancing and not on the petty interactions between people, and because it really does force the contestants to grow as dancers.

That being said, I find that I'm growing more and more disappointed with this season as it continues on. The dancing part remains great. I am always happy to see the talent that comes out of the dancers on the show, even the ones I find that I'm not very fond of, and I think that everyone who appears on the show grows as a dancer, one way or another. So that's good.

And I like the choreography most of the time. I admit that I get excited to see a new Mia Michaels or Wade Robson routine, and I love excellent choreography. These kind of dances can't happen without good choreography and good choreographers. All my love for choreography aside, this show is not So You Think You Can Choreograph. And I'm so sick and tired of hearing the judges constantly going on and on about the choreography! Invariably the first thing they talk about is "oh I loved that choreography, it's so good, blah blah blah, let's cheer the choreographer." And yes, that's great, but it's taking up more and more of the space of the judging, and it's become this great big blowjob for all the choreographers all the time. Except for Jean-Marc for some reason, who last night was pretty much the only one that Nigel didn't wax rhapsodic about.

And Nigel. God. It's like he's become a caricature of himself this season! He just goes on and on about the sex part of everything, and then comes down like an asshole storm on people who I think, and it seems the other judges think, did a good job. He's become kind of a dick, and one of the things I always liked about the judges here was that they weren't dicks. Usually. They tended to tell it like it was, but actually offer up things instead of just going "this is bad, this is bad, welcome to the bottom 3." And Mary Murphy, as much as I kind of enjoy her wackiness, has become all wackiness. I swear, I'm sick to death of hearing about the fucking hot tamale train. Again, it's all "you're so hot, I want to do you, oh by the way the dancing was alright, and CHOREOGRAPHY I LOVE YOU INSERT CHOREOGRAPHER HERE *scream*."

So much of the show seems to focus on the judges and how kooky or bitchy they are, and more and more of the time is being spent on their interactions, which is not what the show is supposed to be about. I like hearing what the judges have to say, because they are experts in their fields, and I like getting an in-depth look at each routine from different perspectives, but I'm so tired of hearing the exact same things every time from them. I felt so bad for Thayne and Comfort, who Nigel was just a dick to the entire time. Yeah, they weren't the best, and I think that in the end it made sense that they were going home tonight, but he was just callous and bitchy to them without actually offering something. Which never used to be his thing, right?

Anyway, I'm rambling, because it's 1 am, and I'm tired, but I am just kind of disappointed with how the season's been going. Which makes me sad, because I really do enjoy the intrinsic spirit of what it's about, y'know? Bah!
