Part of the appeal of survivor is to actually see people on TV unshaven, without make-up, stupid hair-dos and all that usual crap that people think make them look better. We actually get to see how human beings really look like. Which is a huge rarity on TV. I always hate it when they give them rewards that allow them to get "cleaned up" or inevitable after they get voted off and they go on to the jury and they go back to looking like made-up plastic people once again. I always think how much better they all looked before...
But we have balance. We watch verbose well written tv shows as well. I mean my all time favourite show was the Aaron Sorkin penned brilliance that was "Sports Night". You being a writer with a husband in the field of sports would really appreciate this show. It was easily the best written show of all time. You should check out the DVD.
But per your advice... I'd have to say no to turning off survivor. Sorry... but it is quite entertaining.

I don't miss TV at all though. I only watch Simpsons--when I remember to--because it's such a great show. We buy the DVDs of 24 and watch it straight through without commercials. That's about it for TV in our house.
I'm always amazed at the statistics showing that people watch an average of something like 3 hours of TV a day. Who the hell has that much time?!?!? If I had that much time, I could think of so many better things to do.
But I suppose I waste enough hours perusing LJ...
