Live Journal is turning our icons into orphans... to what end? No one knows.
Okay, recently I changed all three of my icons and made a little entry about them, where I posted all three of them together. But six days later I decided to change the third icon with a different one I had made that day.
After going through the process this:
icon was replaced by this:
icon in my personal settings and user info. I now, as expected, had only access to the latter for postings and comments. Furthermore, all my previous posts with the "suck on this" icon had been switch to my default picture.
All was well in the world of Live Journal, or so I thought... I noticed immediately that my entry with the older icon was not replaced by the new icon nor a red X. The "suck on this" icon was still there for all to see. I didn't have posting access to it, but it was still there! Being the semi-rational man that I am, I figured that the system would just take a few days to clear itself out and my little icon would be wiped from apparently wasteful but rather large Live Journal server, but here we are a full three days later and the icon refuses to die. How long will it be before it finally lets go of it's shadow of an existence? I have no clue.
And if this happened to this one icon isn't it safe to assume that there are hundreds of orphaned icons in the Live Journal server? What exactly is LJ doing with these? Is there a black market in lost icons that I am unaware of? Are all the icons I've ever uploaded to LJ still roaming around deep in the server without my knowledge? I smell a conspiracy! I demand justice for these orphaned icons! Either give them back to their rightful owners to use as they please, free of charge, or put them out of their misery!
