Yeah, you're not getting your $7 back. That's a pretty common scam. Next time, if you want to give someone money like that, you can always fill up the tank yourself, confirming that's where the money goes. Like when someone asks for money to get something to eat, I might give them something to eat instead of the money. I guess what they do with the money shouldn't really be my concern (and I'd be a hypocrite to say that they shouldn't buy alcohol, since I drink). But I also figure they do need food, even if they also want something else. I started carrying around granola bars just for that purpose, since I started feeling bad about always saying no. Like you said, who knows what put me where I am, and the person on the street where he is. There are so many factors (including sanity, since many on the street have severe mental illness).

A friend of mine just bought a fake ID for either $30 or $40. The funny thing is the only reason she bought it was to go to one show, and the guy at the door knew it was fake and didn't let her in. Other than that, she doesn't need it anywhere. But maybe you can make more than your $7 back if you do sell it. (Not that I'm encouraging you to commit a crime.)
