Since July

The Short of It:  Well I think you can imagine a lot has occurred since July.

The 10 year anniversary of my http://www.rwtb.org site has come and gone...

I've been cartooning at least semi regularly for http://www.fremonter.com and I've been trying to get a slew of side projects done.

One of my favorites which maybe flew under the radar a little was my design work for the RWTB Hapkido T-Shirt. Believe it or not that shirt took several drafts. (mostly due to the fact I'm so used to cartoons where you don't need all 5 digits on a hand... that I accidentally shorted Sabum a digit in the original version. In the end it's really rewarding to see my design used readily in the school.

Lately: I'm just trying to keep up, some days it feels like I'm spinning my wheels others it feels like I'm getting more efficient at some of this stuff. Bottom line it's hard to keep up with my full time/part time/ side-project commitments.

I'm doing a martial arts program for the Logan View Elementary after school program for the third year now with some fantastic help from Dr. Lew Verner. I've been teaching an adults weapons class for the Martial Arts school for a while now which seems to be to great effect in our adults weapons forms.

This Year: Some strange stuff has fallen into my lap lately which may sidetrack me from some of my goals but I'm excited to see where this year leads.

Jake's Second Fight- It's entirely possible that when I go down to watch Jake's fight here on March 6th I'll be right up front, I may be in Jake's corner taping his hands. The prospect worries me a little as I have not done any quality taping since I was in college and had to do it for my Coaching Certificate. (Yes... that's right... I took a minor in coaching, the guy that barely watches sports... I thought it would help me as a martial arts instructor... I don't think I was totally wrong... but I don't know if I would have taken the coaching Basketball class if I had it to do again.) Anyhow I don't like the idea that if I screw up Jake could break his hands... On top of that I'm also getting ready an elementary art show that will go up that week and that will be a long week of Parent Teacher Conferences (which for me means long nights of prepping artwork so it's ready for the shows I previously mentioned) That's gonna be a really long week.

Comic Strip- I'm slowly edging toward that one hundred comic strip mark on my martial arts comic strip "Just For Kicks" I'd really really like to get that compiled into some sort of book and get it in front of some martial artists to get their thoughts on it.

Art- I've been thinking I need to get back to producing some traditional artwork. Most of my projects have been comic/graphic art related lately I'd really like to get back to print making and painting. I've also played with the idea (at least in my head) of getting some volume towards the goal of displaying my art, it's been a long time since I've done that. But I do have some paying gigs and comissioned pieces I really need to finish before I can really devote myself to that (see Steve Wimer, you are still my priority... see what I did there?... calling you out?... in my blog?... the one you probably don't read? Cuz you're a terrible friend?)

Poetry- Total limbo, I haven't even been trying to write, I'm ashamed to say. I really want to get something going in Fremont though. Restart the Poetry Round Table at the Blue Bottle? Get some performance poetry event set up? Go to an Omaha Slam? Man... I need to do this. It's been too long. Poetry where are you, I need ya buddy!

The State of the Blog: Well this is now my Facebook blog too so it might veer away from the Martial Arts centric content of the past and be a little more personal so I understand if that turns some of my Martial Arts readers away. For my Martial Arts stuff you can still turn to my "Instructor's Shadow" blog maybe that will become my standard martial arts blog. Buh... who knows. I plan to update this again but I've said that in the past to no avail, I appreciate those who read. Particularly those who don't judge and just listen... with their eyes... cuz... no sound... okay stopping now.
