Wow… April. When I look at that I start to wonder if I should just admit defeat and retire the blog. I don’t however think I’m ready to do that. In my defense I haven’t been just sitting idly by. I’ve kept pretty busy. Just ask the folks who have subscribed to the online newsletter how busy I’ve been. I’m up to all kinds of shenanigans. With the RWTB summer camp in MO, the media blitz surrounding the MMA fights down there, and all the other small events (which really weren’t small at all) I’ve just been trying to keep the web site relatively current and get those e-mail newsletters out (which now that I’m scanning and posting as PDFs seem to be going up much more promptly (knocks on wood). Along with the online contest I finally got around to holding… winners notified and prizes received. John C. Fremont Days… UFC 100… and just general life in the summer time its such a strange sense of “hurry up” and “wait for it.”
FACEBOOK: I’ve mentioned this on the e-mails but some folks don’t subscribe to that so I think if you haven’t checked out that RWTB Facebook group man oh man you are missing something because it has really become a pretty active online community. People are posting photos and videos galore! It’s funny because I set that page up MONTHS ago maybe a year ago and it just kinda sat there. NOW it’s a monster! Here’s a quick link to it
http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2212555252 PERSONAL: Been awhile since I got personal on this blog, It’s been just a roller coaster of emotions lately we’ve been dealing with a lot of MMA stuff at the school My Brother started up a class for it, Mr. K and Mr. N both went down to Joplin for their first MMA fights and really did strikingly well. You know as cool as it is to see all this happen it’s also something that we need to think about as a school. Our ideals have been so tied into the philosophy of physical confrontation as a last resort at least in terms of Self-defense that I really think now is a time to remind our students, children, neighbors (within the school) that yes it’s cool that we can go into the cage and have success… it’s cool because our style does well on that kind of testing ground… but that doesn’t make it acceptable to go home and practice this on others… we don’t condone using physical fighting techniques to manage problems that can be dealt with in a more humane and controlled manner. If you can talk your problems out or deal with things without throwing a punch… you ask our fighters… they respect that approach. Don’t over glorify it… it’s easy to get caught up in it, it’s exciting but leave it to the fighters… leave it in the cage. When my brother got out of that cage he spent hours talking to and getting to know his opponent. They made plans to train together that helps prove to me that the experience isn’t entirely the war that you see.
I’m going to wrap this up. Shorter blogs more often? Maybe. I hope so.
