If my cousin wishes to change the way his name is perceived so that it fits who he perceives himself to be, those that truly love and care for him should not question it. I deleted the last three comments, to better move past it. Two days later, on an unrelated Facebook status, Colbert replies with just the name "Alex." I respond via private message:

One of the things I've always liked about our friendship is our sense of humour and irreverence, but (as I've made perfectly clear) this is one of the *only* things I'm not fucking around about. I tried to laugh it off when you insulted my friends and family who defended me, on account of our long history and your general good-naturedness. I told myself that the 'hilarity' of that Oprah joke was just lost in translation. But honestly what the fuck is this shit? This is a private message I'm sending you. I'm not bantering, I'm asking you to be real with me.
I've made it abundantly clear that I take this really seriously, and to have you callously throw it in my face and then say "lighten up" when I stand up for myself is hurtful and insulting. Act like an adult, please, when the moment calls for it.
I've defriended you on Facebook. If you want to continue disrespecting me, from now on you can do it to my face, not in a public forum. If you'd like to continue being my friend, you are free to text me, and of course you are still invited to the game on Sunday. Hopefully I will see you then.
