Live Music

This is a local show with roots/folk music (bluegrass, Cajun, ...) six times a year. It's held in Abita Springs, about 20-30 miles from here. They also show it on the Southeastern Channel (run by the university, SLU). I've seen it on TV a lot over the last year; and over the last year I've slowly fallen in love.

At first I thought it was something they did once and they were just showing the same thing over and over. I missed out on seeing it live; too bad.

But now I looked it up online and it turns out it's a recurring event (3 times in the fall and 3 times in the spring)! Meaning I can go check it out live!! :-D So I signed up on their email list and I am so totally going when they start up again in September.

OK, I'm kind of lukewarm on the gospel, but the bluegrass is totally awesome, and the Cajun, zydeco, etc, too. Even the country/cowboy stuff is really cool! Yes, I admit it. :-)

If you are lucky enough to get this on cable (not bloody likely) you should definitely check it out. There are a lot of other performance shows on PBS and local cable channels: Austin City Limits is world famous, there are lots of others too. The more I watch shows like this, the more I love them. Local musicians playing the best music.

I wish there were some live music in Hammond, but since there isn't, I'm starting to find out about live music in the area, and it turns out there is indeed some live music within half an hour, and I'm going to try to check some of it out. Oh, also I found out where the best jazz spots are in New Orleans (on Frenchman Street, just a few blocks east of the French Quarter). I'm not often in New Orleans for the evening, but next time I am, I know where to go! :-)

PS-My plant was looking pretty limp this morning so I watered him and now all the stems are sticking straight up. Wow. I didn't think he'd recover so fast, within a day. :-) Yay, plant.
