Uggh, Juno. So overrated.

At first blush, Juno seems like a pretty great movie. It's entertaining and lots of fun to watch. There's a great cast, and each of the film's characters are well-sketched and interesting. First-rate cinematography keeps the film colorful and engaging from start to finish. There are more than enough quirks, witty ( Read more... )

Tough critic.

I disagree with pretty much everything you said. It wasn't supposed to be a social commentary. It was a story about how a teenage girl deals with getting pregnant, and it was great. At least, that's what I took it for.

i'm pretty sure i'm the only one who didn't like the movie, haha.

& i don't know. i guess it wasn't supposed to be a social commentator, but still, the way it portrayed teenage pregnancy really bothered me. juno basically just skated through it unharmed, and that's not really realistic at all.

but again, it didn't bother most people. i'm probably (definitely) being picky.

just because she's not prepared to deal with issues beyond her maturity level doesn't mean that those issues are going to magically disappear.

I feel like you're treating it wildly unfairly. I'm not under the impression Juno is supposed to reflect a gritty realism you seem to want ( ... )

yeah, i probably am treating it unfairly. i realize that it's not supposed to be a documentary. it's not a "deep thinker". it's a comedy, meant to elicit laughs more than start a dialogue on society.

but, at the end of the day, it was more frustrating than funny to me. and no, i'm not looking for holes. i actually wanted to like it, given its overwhelmingly positive recently. but then, i genuinely felt this way as i stepped out of the theater. oh well.

also, your final sentence here is fantastic.
