MY FAVORITE TRACKS of 2007
So... I'm not sure anybody follows my journal anymore because I mostly just talk about music (and, sadly, this entry is not an exception to this rule). I'm indulgent, I know, sorry. I do actually have a big non-music entry in the works, and after I post it I'd like to continue posting as regularly as I used to. However, before we get to that point, I would like to get my best of 2007 music awards out of the way.

2007 is actually the first year in which I paid attention to the music scene the whole way through, and it's been fun keeping my ear to the ground. Despite a few disappointments (Bright Eyes, Interpol, Wilco, Bloc Party, et al.), this year has been pretty rewarding and found me some new favorites. I'll be posting my top 10 albums of the year in a couple days... Before that, though, I'd like to post my top 25 songs of the year. Enjoy!

So, that's that. Many of these songs were flashes of brilliance in otherwise mediocre albums (ie. Bright Eye's Cassadaga) or flashes of enjoyability in albums that I found otherwise inaccessible or overly pretentious (ie. Battles' Mirrored). Also, I didn't want to do duplicate tracks -- LCD Soundsystem and Spoon would have showed up a few more times had I done that.

And no, and Radiohead's album isn't my favorite of the year -- the group only happened to write my favorite song (though the top three tracks on this list were very very close).

Happy holidays, everybody!

- Ethan
