People need to start writing things out by hand again. I'm sitting here at my desk and all day long all I ever use is my keyboard. What happened to the days that you could use a pen and paper and write a missive to a coworker or friend and send it along? are we that dependent on technology that our handwriting capabilities now suffer?

It's faster to type.

The only thing I write by hand anymore is my grocery list :P

It may be faster to type to that person, but that is besides the point. The point is to say that we as a society have started to frown upon the written word and move towards the digital one.

Is that such a bad thing? Many people have illegible writing anyway. I remember when teachers nearly crapped their pants when computers/printers became so commonplace they could make a typed report a requirement. I write out the grocery list because I can barely read Dave's writing sometimes. If he was passing me notes instead of IMs, I probably wouldn't know what he was saying half the time.

As long as the words are the same, does it really matter if they've been written out on a piece of paper (which a tree had to die for, btw :P) with a pen, or if it's typed onto a screen?

Besides, I don't think anyone is frowning. People just always tend towards the easier/faster/more convenient way to do things. I doubt anyone would say "OMG why are you writing that, you should be typing it!"

But you see, the difference between a handwritten note and a text message is the thought that is put into it. A simple text message could say, "OMG!!! u want 2 c this", and a hand written note could say, "I cannot believe what I just saw, it was the most beautiful thing ever. You should have seen it." Granted, it may take longer to write and receive, but the message is the same and you get more feeling without sounding like a preteen girl.
