Molten Rock People
Scene 1:
Christian Rigsby is in the middle of his bedroom contemplating his revelation and is waiting for his two best friends Joseph Lineman and Tommy O’Conner.
Christian- [aside] I can barely believe it! I have discovered the origin of life!! My friends will be so excited, and our trek will be a grand one indeed!
[Enter Joseph and Tommy]
Christian- why hello friends!!
Joseph- Hello.
Tommy- Hey.
Christian- no time for small talk! We’ve got business to discuss. I’ve come across the most riveting discovery! And-and… whoa I don’t know where to start!
Tommy- Are you ok man, you look a little wired.
Christian- No worries, i'm just ecstatic. But-
Joseph- but Christian we must be heading off to school, the bus will be here any minute now and I do not feel like walking today.
Tommy- you wouldn’t feel like walking anywhere tubsy.
Joseph- Heey…
Christian- don’t worry about school, we’re not going. We have something much more important at hand.
Tommy- what are you babbling about!
Joseph- yeah I can’t miss school today, I missed school last week!
Christian- [sighs largely] I will just be straight. I believe I have found the secret to how the earth breeded life.
Tommy- Oh, yeah right. Yeah, yesterday I took my car to the moon.
[Joseph laughs]
Christian- No! Seriously! It will change everything… religion, government personalities, possibly even society.
Joseph- I’m not going to miss school for your wild ranting… your probably wrong anyways.
Christian- school isn’t important today anyways they’re just going to have fair day today. No classes will be in session.
Joseph- but I really like the free food and games...
Tommy- HA! You would tubsy. But seriously Christian-
Christian- before you even start I will make you a deal, if you come with me today and I am incorrect I will pay you both two hundred dollars out of my savings… and if I am right, you will never have to worry about working or school again. Think about it noble prizes all around, meetings with the president and other highly esteemed politician’s scientists etc. shoot! We may even be on the wheaties box for Christ’s sake.
Joseph- you know. On second thought, it is just fair day today at school; I don’t really need to go.
Tommy- Yeah, i’m in. I could use a good laugh!
Christian- well its settled. We have no time to waste, get into these suits we are leaving as soon as you are ready!
[Exit Christian, Tommy, and Joseph]
Scene 2:
[Enter Joseph, Christian, and Tommy]
Christian, Joseph, and Tommy have arrived at a cave opening in the hills behind the town. Joseph is resting on a rock suitable in size for sitting. Christian has still not given full explanation for why they are there. Christian takes a water bottle out from his backpack and takes a long swig.
Joseph- Hey I’m thirsty too… give me some of that water!
Tommy- tubsy, tubsy, tubsy… always with the food…
Christian- Here, take some you better have it now cause once we enter you won’t be able to have any water.
Joseph- Thanks, for a minute there I thought you were going to drink it all...
Tommy- Enter?
Christian- Hurry up we have a long way to go!
Tommy- Enter where… here [Tommy points to the cave opening]
Joseph- A long way? And nothing to drink? What about eat?
Christian- I did make some sandwiches but liquids are not going to be allowed in here.
Tommy- WHERE ARE YOU TAKING US!!
Christian- I thought you were in… right? You will find out, do not worry, just follow me… c’mon, let’s go! Christian runs into the cave
[Exit Christian]
Tommy- He’s crazy.
Joseph- I’m hungry.
Tommy- listen… I don’t know what he’s trying too prove, and I don’t trust him anymore.
Joseph- hey, we’ve come this far, I don’t feel like walking all the way back.
Christian- [from off stage] - c’mon guys we don’t have all day!!
Joseph- I’m going, he said he had sandwiches.
[Exit Joseph]
Tommy-[aside] - what is he getting us into...? I mean, it-it could be dangerous in there… I’ve never been this far from town, and-and… WHO, who would find us if we were to get hurt… i'm quite sure no one. Maybe Joseph is right… We’ve come this far.
[Exit Tommy]
Scene 3:
[Enter Christian, Joseph, and Tommy]
They have now traveled deep into the chasms of the cave. Tommy is fed up with Christian’s secrecy. Joseph is fed up with not being fed. From the wall of the cave there is a protrusion of rock that is suitable for sitting on.
Tommy-That’s it! I demand to know where we are going. I am NOT a man who relies on faith alone Christian!
Christian- all in good time…
Tommy- NO! If you don’t tell me NOW, I am going back, I don’t care how far we’ve gone, or how much money is in my favor… that doesn’t matter to me anymore.
Christian- calm down… I will tell you. But i'm sure we are all hungry, so let’s sit down and eat some sandwiches.
Joseph- FINALLY!!
Tommy- fine… I guess I am a little hungry.
[Christian, Tommy, and Joseph sit down on the protruding rock. Christian pulls three sandwiches out of his bag and hand one to both Tommy and Joseph.]
Christian- Ok, I will tell you where i’m taking you, and the whole purpose of this trip.
Tommy- you better speak up, I want to make sure I hear what you have to say.
Joseph-[with a stuffed mouth] - yeah, and I’m eating so I can’t hear to well.
Christian- Like I told you before, I figured out how the earth works… where humans come from, and what happens after death…
Tommy- yeah, and I didn’t believe you then, cut to the chase.
Christian- right. I believe that the functions of the Earth… are controlled… by what I think are most simply described as Molten Rock People.
Tommy- WHAAAAT!! We are all the way down here for THAT!! That is ridiculous! I haven’t heard something so crazy in my life ever before, I otta take you to a Looney house and-
Christian- WHAT HAPPENS IS- [clears throat]- what happens is the rock people live in the center of the Earth or close to the center, and they control the tectonic plates and spin and everything we think to be natural about the Earth. Then they die and become part of the magma in the center of our world, only to eventually be shot out of a volcano… the dust and smoke and filaments contain the essence of the people and eventually this birthed the life ON the earth, and then, when we die, we eventually become reborn molten rock people, only to complete the cycle of life.
Tommy- you’ve lost it pal… this is complete lunacy; I’m going back right now…
Joseph- meh’…. Sounds plausible to me.
Tommy- WHAAAT???? You are both crazy. C’mon, we have got to go home, and i’m afraid, Christian, that you owe, me and Joseph here two hundred bucks.
Christian- i'm not going back quite yet, I haven’t proved my theory to be right or wrong… we haven’t nearly gone far enough.
Joseph- you gonna finish that sandwich Tommy?
Tommy- Shut up Joseph!!
[At the very moment Tommy says this one molten rock person who goes by the name of Jedediah rushes on stage!]
Jedediah- [in a deep scruffled voice]-What are you doing here…
Christian-HA!! I KNEW IT TO BE TRUE!
Tommy- Oh My GOD!
Joseph- [dropping his sandwich] - whoa.
Jedediah- you are all under arrest! If you resist I will use force!
[Jedidiah proceeds to put rock cuffs on Christian, Tommy, and Joseph]
Tommy- Look what you’ve gotten us into now Christian!
[Jedidiah escorts Christian, Tommy, and Joseph deeper into the cavern]
[Exit Jedidiah, Christian, Tommy, and Joseph]
