as soon as i...

i find myself sitting here in my office, waiting. in this particular instance, i find myself waiting for someone to get back from a meeting because i need something from this person to move forward with my current task. i general, though, i often find myself waiting before taking action, and i'm wondering:

when is it time to wait, and when is it time for action?

throughout life, i hear people saying "as soon as..." all the time. as soon as i get a new job... as soon as i finish the degree... as soon as i save up some money... when is it time to say that you're never going to be ready, so you might as well go on and get it done?

whenever the "right" time for something comes along, there's usually going to be something else that's come up that will make it not the right time anymore, and you end up waiting again. with this thought in mind, it's time for me to carpe diem... i'm going to go on and start this task, and any number of other things, right now.

as soon as i realize i don't have a real reason not to go ahead and do it now, i become a happier person with a shorter to-do list...
