Why can't I just be myself?
If you don't like your friend's personality, you are pretty much screwed. That is how they are. They are going to stay just like that until they want to change. That might be never.
If you don't like their personality, why are you friends with them in the first place?
Sometimes people change, and not always for the better. But, who is to say what is better or worse? You have to evolve with your friends or they are going to leave you behind. You don't have to follow them, but try to respect them.
