on sunday i returned home after a ski-filled weekend up at
collingwood's blue mountain. seeing as how i'd skiied only a few times
before, and since my most recent attempt was way back in grade 7 or 8,
i think i did pretty well. by saturday's end i'd skiied nearly all the
blue (intermediate) hills on the mountain, and, more impressively, my
spinal chord and all other bones were relatively intact and
undamaged. what i'm most proud of, however, is successfully
achieving my goal of NOT DYING; an objective i kept reminding myself of
every time i ventured down a slope. all in all, it was a great
weekend filled with good times, good people, good (sometimes) food,
nice weather, and lovely accomodations. the only downside of the
whole experience was cass' organizational incompetence, including
instituting a first-come first-serve policy for acquiring bus-seats for
the return journey. silly.
i've observed that when young people get together, the concept of sleep
becomes about as appealing as a trip to an angry orthodontist.
take saturday night at blue mountain, for instance. after nearly
8 hours of skiing, a good amount of walking, and a ncie meal, one would
assume that the natural conclusion to such a day would be a good
night's rest. one would, of course, be wrong. after getting
back to our room at around 1 am, the drinks came out. as the
general level of intoxication grew and grew, so too did the
noise. this meant that any attempt at dozing off was futile and
altogether out of the question. my observation of the partying
continued until about 3, when i finished the stella i'd been nursing
before putting my head down on the armrest of the couch. upon
awaking a few minutes later, i found the room entirely empty.
empty...and completely dark. i wasn't too surprised, however,
since at this point i vaguely recalled hearing some talk of going to
another room. another 'party', as it were. feeling a little
more alert and awake than i'd felt all night, i decided to take
advantage of the relative quietness to watch some classic late night
tv. i ended up settling on tbs' presentation of 'the mask of
zorro', a film which i've always enjoyed. anyway, mark returned
to the room about a half hour later, and the rest of them soon after
that. since at this point it was nearly 5am, and since much of
the alcohol supply had been depleted, one could be forgiven for
concluding that now...yes NOW...would be a grand time to close one's
eyes and let the beautiful process of sleep take over. but
no. no. instead, the loud activity continued; its loud
loudness louder than ever. i endured this for about 30 minutes,
when i finally put the pull-out bed i was lying on to good use and fell
asleep. in the morning i was told that some folk had actually
stayed up until nearly 9 am. i should add that all this occurred
with the knowledge that our room had to be completely vacated by 11 the
next morning. go figure.
don't get me wrong, i'm really not complaining. the whole weekend
was great, and even the things i mentioned above weren't really that
annoying. i guess i just like sleep........regularly........and
for long periods of time. am i alone in this?
but it seriously was lots of fun. thanks to frances, andy, mark, jac sen, carlos, ang, and the others for the fun times.

Q: why was 6 afraid of 7?
anyone know?

who knew leia had insights?
and in other news, i've been told a couple times recently that i remind
people of eric forman from 'that 70's show'. i suppose i should
take it as a compliment. he is
kind of funny, and he does have a pretty good looking
girlfriend. then again, he is somewhat scrawny.....and
slightly pathetic. hmmmm.....
