I'm beginning to garner an active hate for pine nuts. Not because they are unpleasant by any means -- it's just that they always end up in the stupidest goddamn places. I had some hummus with pine nuts in it just earlier today; it was one of the most depressing culinary experiences of my life (second only to finding out shark doesn't taste like manly and awesome, but since their diet consists mainly of sick fish and garbage, I don't know what I was expecting). Their mere presence detracted from the hummus in terms of texture and flavour. It was, getting technical for a moment, fuckin' shitty.

Pine nuts are "soft", putting them on other "soft" foods like hummus or pasta (in before the phrase "al dente" and me backpedaling like the Fist of the North Star) or any of that shit is, personal opinion, a bad choice. Peanuts are good in Pad Thai because of the contrasting textures, fuck me sideways, so can I have some pine nuts with some "hard" foods? But these are LE CORDON BLEU GRADUATE CHEFS* putting pine nuts all over the goddamn place like they're Jesus' Allspice, what do I know.

Pine nuts sprinkled on a salad or a piece of baklava are fucking awesome, can I have them there instead of in my goddamn hummus?

(For the record, I generally subsist on Easy Mac, so this post is not so serious business.)
