I don't know wtf was wrong with Thorpe in Beijing. I watched his interview on Eurosport and his face was red like a lobster. Bob Bowman's too, for that matter.

He looks like a slender man, but not too thin.

BMI is notoriously unreliable, and it gets more unreliable the taller a person is. And for athletes, it should be completely disregarded. Michael has very, very low body fat. It varies, of course, depending on where he is in his training. But even for an elite swimmer, he is one of the thinnest. Eamon Sullivan is the only one I can think of who is as small.
