Eh, he prolly will. He doesn't seem like the type of person to get the chiseled look for vanity reasons, but more for athletic reasons. He said in a video once that he's not a huge fan of the gym, and I remember reading a special edition Sports Illustrated mag where he answered a reporter's question of what he plans to do after competetive swimming and answers, "I'm gonna sit on a beach(or was it couch?) somewhere, gain a lot of weight and not even care." Trufax. So he prolly might look like that in the future.
He might be this fat in 20 years, but unless he tries really hard, he won't be this big in just a few short years after he retires. You're not taking into consideration that Thorpe at his competition weight and physique had noticeably more body fat than all the other elite swimmers. As a child, he was quite chubby. Compare that to MP. He was a stick. There's just a huge difference in their metabolisms. Thorpe is going to fight weight gain for the rest of his life. Phelps won't have the same strugge.
