um... on a more serious note and completely off-topic (LOL ;P), i've been waiting for this school and foundation thing to raise off the ground for almost a year, and i am more than elated to hear he is officially considering them as potential projects for his future after swimming.

I'm confused about that school. What will Mike be doing? Teach little kids how to swim? That would be waste of his talent and knowledge.

Edit: I wanted to say, I can't imagine Phelps teaching toddlers how to swim.
;)

Hi bp, my guess is that he will be the name and the face of the school and the school will be focused on the development of young and talented swimmers. Image you have a 10 year old son who is the best in his age group and everyone thinks he has what it takes to be an olympic swimmer and you want to give him the best chance to do it. Your looking for the place to best develop his potential, who is the most successful swimmer ever.......MP swimming school with BB has head coach and MP being available to mentor the kids etc. would be a logical choice.
MP could also be involved in recruiting and fund raising. I think it has the potential to be a highly successful venture.

I hear what you're saying but imo he can do more for the sport if he becomes a high profile IOC member, lobbying for swimming etc. There are many good coaches who can teach kids how to swim, he doesn't have to do that.

I agree with you it would be a waste, that is not what I am suggesting. He would not be a coach but he would be available to the swimmers at selected times. His primary responsibility would be in the public realm. I can't imagine that he would have any interest in being a member of the IOC.

LOL! i don't see it happening any time soon either! mainly because he would have to go to through exams and get a number of certifications before getting the right to train officially. you don't become a coach by just a snap of a finger, even bb phelps!

i think his job will consist in raising funds and making appearances at the deck, also to sign autographs and... lecture the kids, you know the usual "learn from my mistakes" drill... *giggles*
