With bow windows you have many possibilities... You can position your curtains outside the window and have sheer blinds or nets inside the recess. If the bow is deep enough then your curtains can be positioned to follow the contour of the window. Pelmets or valances can be fitted to the roof of the bow.

For curtains or blides hung on the inside, determine the width by measuring from one inside edge of the window opening to the other. Measure in three places and use the narrowest measurement. For the height, measure from the top inside edge of the window opening to the top of the sill for the headrail brackets.

For curtains or blinds hung outside, measure from one outside edge of the window casing to the other for the width. You need to add a little here for the headrail brackets - I recommend adding 3" out on each side (that way there is no light gap, but amount could be less if necessary)

Since you're a guy and probably wouldn't go for fru-fru curtains, which I hate as well I would suggest going to Target or Voldemart and getting simple and long curtains (depending on the measurements) the ones that have that extra "darkening" liner are slightly more expensive but well worth it for keeping annoying light out (I R VAMPYRE)

Also thrift stores are awesome places to acquire wall art and curtains. If you have a Goodwill up there. Or I do know that there are several places on the intraweb to get cheap posters, notably allposters.com or ebay.

It depends on what you want...

Hope this helps.
