James T. Kirk Causeway and beyond: noon, Saturday

Jan 27, 2007 13:42

Parker was obsessively checking her purse, the camera and her keys as they headed toward the Miata. "You guys ready for this? I mean, seriously? We can take another hour, if you want to go over the maps again."

[ooc: for weissguy_ and time_agent. That they left the Island for the afternoon is okay to broadcast; where they went is NFB.]

muahaha, the centre, sydney, angelo, jack, weiss

"Parker, I spent all morning going over the plan," Weiss said. "Geez, you'd think I'd never done a covert op before." He hadn't, but you know, that ruined the joke.

Parker shot him a grin that didn't manage to stay on her face for more than ten seconds. "I know. I know. And you look right. I've got the sunglasses and some Centre earbugs for you guys to put on before we get there. We'll have to pull over and have one of you drive as soon as we're about a mile away." She blew out a breath. "Right. Ignore me. Evidently real-life scenarios make me tense."

"I can't ignore you, you're the hot lady with the plan," Weiss said.

"He's got a point, Parker. You are hot," he said with a teasing smile. "Impossible to ignore. And I don't have a licence, so I vote for Weiss to drive, just in case we get pulled over."

As they got closer to town, Parker took a breath. "Okay, pull over at the next rest stop. It's got a picnic table and it's screened by the sign over there. You guys can put on the earbugs and guns without being seen."

Weiss pulled in and parked. "Okay, gun me," he said, turning off the car.

Parker opened the trunk, and got out the 9mm and shoulder-holster she'd packed. "This should fit, put it on, and button your suit jacket over it. Loose enough to reach for it, but not obvious if you're not looking for it." She pulled out the earbugs with their curled cords, and handed one to Jack, and one to Weiss, then the shades. "To make you look Sweeper-ish."

Jack pulled off his jacket and shrugged into the shoulder holster, feeling much more relaxed now that he was armed. A few quick adjustments and he was happy with the way it was sitting. As he buttoned his jacket up, he watched Parker. "When we go gun shopping? I want one of these," he said, tucking in the earbug and slipping on the shades.

The Centre, Sub-Level 26 anextimeagent January 28 2007, 01:36:34 UTC
Having the map in his head helped - Jack could track their progress as they made their way through sub-level 26. He almost felt sorry for the people Parker decided to observe; it reminded him strongly of a hawk 'observing' a rabbit shortly before that rabbit's demise.

Glaring at anyone who got too close, or didn't jump fast enough when Parker spoke, he waited as patiently as he could for the next move.

Weiss... tried to look as intimidating as a slightly overweight, jovial-looking guy could get.

He had a feeling it wasn't working.

whoop whoop whoop whoop whoop

"All personnel," came the voice from the loudspeaker. "Please proceed to evacuation points and exit the building. This is for your safety. All on-duty personnel most reach their duty stations within ten minutes."

"Now," Parker whispered. She took a sharp right down the next corridor, and headed for the access shaft, Jack and Weiss right behind her. She ducked into a side-corridor to let some of the techs head for the stairs, then headed straight for the panel.

The grid slid open when she turned the water faucet handle and she took a shaky breath. "In. Then the fun begins."

Weiss shook his head. "Ducts. Why'd it have to be ducts?" and began crawling.

They were within sight of the doors-- hell, they were just across the lobby, coming out of that damn elevator-- when the first snag materialized.

"Halt!" A younger man, crisp and clean-cut and with the same cold eyes of all Sweepers, hurried to cut them off. "Access and authorization code of the day."

"Parker." She gave him a cool look. "I don't need one."

Crap, crap, crap, so close, damnit, so close...

Weiss knew to keep his mouth good and shut, recalled Aly's training, and mirrored the other man's cold eyes as much as possible.

Mouth twisting in a careful sneer, Jack took one small step forward, not in front of Parker, just slightly closer. "You might want to rethink that attitude," he drawled, glancing pointedly at Parker, before glaring back at the sweeper. "Before you get your ass handed to you."
