Room 234/236: Late late late at night

Sep 04, 2006 00:06

Parker had Esme out of her habitat, she had on her favorite pajamas, she had a glass of scotch. It had been a fairly weird week so far, and classes hadn't even started.

The trip to Lake Catherine had been uneventful but relaxing. Much less relaxing was having to come back to Fandom and say good-bye to Xander (and leave him a phone message that he still hadn't returned, the brat) and Callisto. Arguing with Aeryn about it later hadn't helped. On the other hand, helping Anders cross-dress with style to fulfill his payback to Bel, and scaring a newbie named Dean had helped, as had going dancing at the Devil's Nest with D'Anna, Jack, and Liz, which had put her in a much better frame of mind.

Enough that she was able to deal with the concept of auditions the next day, after a stop by the common room to say hi to Shawn, Anders, Cam, and Sam. After a million years of tryouts (and a couple guys who'd probably been stoned before they got there), Zero had found four people for her band, and Parker now had the job of finding them jobs, talking them up, getting them paid-- without being in charge of the music at all. God, it was going to be fun. She'd followed up by going to Caritas and lined up a gig for the band with GOB today, and stopped to chat with Blair about Bel and the prank and 'vibes', too. Good progress.

Post-auditions, Jarod had called, and she'd played Hot-Cold with the smirky guy through the Park-- until she'd ended up at his new place, 18 Apocalypse Avenue. 'Christening' his rooms had been a *real* homecoming, and she'd stayed the night, despite concerns about, oh, a teacher and a certain vodka-drinking vice principal who lived there.

Returning this morning to find out about Marie from Nadia had left her upset for a while. She'd definitely have to check in with her later this week. Why the hell hadn't she put that together, when they first met? Rogue and Marie, same person, not just near-twins. Well, the place was crawling with them, but... anyway.

She'd stopped by the Common Room, caught up with Krycek, yay, and Sam and Hermione, then snarked-almost-flirted with Ray, henceforth known as 'Skippy', and finally met... Luke Skywalker. Anakin's son. Who's been killed twenty-some years ago, along with all the other Jedi, by their Ethics Teacher, according to Luke. Even hours later, it still wasn't sinking in.

Now she was just trying to comprehend that Anakin was dead. They'd been friends, months and months ago, before things got messed up between them. More her fault than his, really. And half the school was going to be mourning, and Parker-- didn't know what she felt. Sorry, definitely. Confused, maybe?

Disbelieving. Yes. That was it. That's what she was feeling. There'd been a prophecy, and there'd been Anakin's plans and talents and unique abilities, and it was all just... gone. For good or ill, it was over before they'd even known it started. And his kid didn't know anything about him. Somehow that almost seemed worse than the rest of it.

Shivering, Parker hugged Esme close, wishing she could sleep.
