Parker pulled out her phone and thumbed the speed-dial, drumming her fingers on the steering wheel as she pulled her Porsche into the drive at the Miller B&B. Unlike calls and
letters earlier this month, this one was strictly business.
Hard to have a secret getaway if you didn't have someone establishing an alibi for you, right?
"You've established your presence in New York? Excellent." She opened the door, checking her surroundings as she got her bags out of the trunk. "Yes, you can use the spending account I set up at Saks. The credit cards have a maximum of $5,000, but dont spend more than one thousand. Out of character to do that on a short weekend." She slammed the trunk shut, and said, "I expect a progress report on Friday. Thank you, Belinda. And be sure to be seen at the Met." She toggled the phone off, and climbed the stairs to the front porch.
"Parker?"
She turned and grinned brightly at Ben Miller, who had already put aside his broom, arms open for a hug. "Miss me?"
"You know I did, honey. I swear, you got even taller since the last time you were here." Her mother's old friend hugged her tight, then patted her hair. "I baked your favorite. And...." His grin turned sly. "I got a phone call from Jarod. He'll be here tomorrow."
Parker didn't say anything, but her smile widened even more.
