I'm used to seeing liberals and leftists use the most ridiculous of invectives against their opponents on the right -- Al Gore's implication that George W. Bush is the modus operandi -- but it was surprising to see the level of rage directed at Ralph Nader.
Washington Post reporter Lloyd Grove reported that an election-night gathering at Bill and Hillary Clinton's hotel room, publishing figure Harry Evans exclaimed "I want to kill Nader!" Hillary Clinton reportedly replied, "That's not a bad idea!", immediately followed by a collective cry of "That's off the record!"
Whether or not this incident did indeed happen, the insults, insinuations and innuendos direct at Nader from Democrats and their allies were disgusting to watch. Toward the end of the campaign Democrats and liberal supporters of Al Gore not only tried to use Nader's ethnicity against him (he is Lebanese) but also dropped hints that his ascetic lifestyle might mean that he is gay.
