Russia will pull out of Gori by Friday: France

Russia has pledged to withdraw its forces from the flashpoint Georgian city of Gori by Friday, the French ambassador to Georgia Eric Fournier told reporters.

"The Russians have made a pledge to leave Gori by tomorrow," said the ambassador, whose country was behind the ceasefire agreed earlier in the week that formally ended five days of fighting.

"We need to be vigilant that the pledges will be respected," he added.

An EU lawmaker who was present at Thursday’s news conference also emphasized that the withdrawal was planned for the following day
