Problem with LJ friends

I kinda thought I'd be getting updates whenever they/you post a journal, but it seems like I don't.

Does anyone know how to fix it so that I know when friends update? Because I only ever get updates from one person.

You should, when you friends added people did you check in the follow box/add to flist? You can be friends without their posts turning up on your flist. Of course you need to be mutual friends too...
