I'm a little embarrassed to ask this, but i haven't worn a 'work outfit' to work in like 2 years. i also haven't been to work before 9:30 am in years either, but that's neither here nor there. ive already looked at jcrew, old navy, banana republic, and lands end. where else can i find cute work clothes that'll go up to a size 16? As mentioned earlier, i highly recommend NY&Co. They started carrying a lot more trendy pieces in the past few years. it's at least a good place to get some basics. They carry up to size 18 in the store and have short, regular and talls in pants and jackets.

I also recommend JC Penny. It's a total hidden gem for me -- their ana brand has the cutest anthro-esque pieces. Again, they carry up to size 20 in straight sizes and also have a plus size line.

I really do like old navy for basics too.

I've found that a lot of the stretchier anthro items fit me and a lot of their tops come in XL - it's worth trying out.

oh and faith 21 line at forever 21 is great and torrid occasionally has some non-skull stupid pieces too.

if you really want to find some unique stuff, i recommend dorothy perkins, but it's a uk store, so know that shipping can be pricey.

thanks for all your help :) i didn't realize how out of touch i really was. i just want to look cute and put together and maybe have a flower or ruffle on each outfit. and some textured tights. i love those :) and is it ok to wear a peep toe with tights?

btw, i actually love dorothy perkins, but im waiting till the dollar is in better shape :)

no worries, i've been dealing with cute business fashion for the past few years, so i feel like i finally am getting it down. I totally wrote off department stores as being fuddy-duddy, but the key is to get pieces that will really mix around well.

Last year i created a look-book of things i loved in J crew and anthro and from magazines. Then when I went shopping, it helped to bring that look book to create outfits. I also depend heavily on polyvore.com and almost every outfit i make there goes up to size 20. Feel free to check that out too.

I do think it's ok to wear a peep toe with tights -- just not sandals w/tights :)

also those lovely bib necklaces that are all the rage right now are a great way to "girlify" an otherwise boring outfit.
