I'm glad my grandparents were discharged from the hospital in time for Christmas eve. They're recuperating bit by bit, and I'm happy to see them slowly becoming as energetic as they used to be.
"Mama, buti ka pa. Inggit ako sa iyo."
"Ha?"
"May Christmas lights kasi dyan sa dextrose mo."
"Hindi yan Christmas lights. Ang kulit mo talaga."
Now I know where it came from.
Bringing cameras and kids below seven (7) years of age were prohibited, but we were able to do so perhaps because 1) it was the first golden anniversary to be celebrated inside the hospital, 2) my sister, who fares well enough in the looks department, was friendly to all the staff and the security personnel, and 3) the doctor we know is one of the best in his field. We had to attend to a new batch of guests from the hospital's different departments every other hour, but I guess it was okay since we got to meet new friends.
Mild cardiac arrest, that's what the doctor told us. It started out with just my grandfather in the hospital. When my grandmother visited him, she started crying, and she cried until she had chest pains. I just realized how much of a crybaby she is. Whenever I think about it, I chuckle to myself recalling how both of them ended up in the hospital.
"Sana pala hindi ko na lang binisita si Dad niyo."
And my mom's remark was, in a way, funny as well.
"Buti na lang hindi ako sumama. Kung hindi, tatlo tayo diyan ngayon."
My uncle from New York called. I miss him. He's the uncle nearest my age, just a few years my senior I think.
"Ayoko nang mag-party dito. Miss ko kayo diyan e."
"Hay nako. Yang problema mo, problemang pang-high-school, parang commercial lang sa TV. Ok na sila kaya huwag ka nang mag-alala."
He got a scolding from an aunt, she who insisted that I am fat.
Even though we're not complete, I'm still happy that we're together. This is the best Christmas ever.
