Double Red
We had been giggling as usual
lobster red from laughing
remembering the adventures tied to our left feet
the tide of memory washing away our fears, wounds and troubles
slip sliding down the bumpy road of life, two passengers riding down the steps on a sleeping bag, snow from an indoor fight still in our hair
the past, black, black like the night
cursed by a feather boa,
yearning to be rid of or saved from
some unfortunate bird's feathers that clung to our noses.
fiery femmes forming an unbreakable force
the world set ablaze, no match for the conflagration, ignited by the white hot embers of
two spirits crackling like fire
the slam of the screen door and the echo of a lone word, RUN
inextinguishable double red.
