Life back in the states...

I am back from Spain. And it has certainly been a whale of an adventure. Well, there was a lot of Spanish. Haha, I do miss Madrid and my wonderful landlady but it was difficult to be abroad. Being with an American university, it was hard to go out and make Spanish friends and as sad as this is to admit, I'm not as independent as I'd like to be. I didn't go out to bars and just sit and hang out and meet people, which is one of the best ways to meet people (from my limited Spanish bar experience). I just sat in my apartment and watched TV online. I know, so exciting. Well it suited me fine and in the end, I'm pleased with my Madrid experience because I know the city and I met some wonderful people and I like to think that I can now speak Spanish. I was always a little shy to say I spoke it but now I think I can say that I speak it. But boy does that sound cocky.

Anyway, my friends from school came to visit and we had a blast from the past -- watching Sound of Music, my sister and Ashley watched Diddy not make a band, we explored Cali and enjoyed time with my crazy, crazy parents, oh and of course my fantastic grandmother. Lots of shopping, which my mom didn't understand ... "I don't understand why they came to California to shop...shopping, shopping, shopping..." hahaha. I miss them terribly and its going to be weird to not go back to New York this fall but they all seem to be holding up just fine so I shall wallow in my loneliness...alone. :( No, I'm fine. I'll save money for all my trips and sort out what I want to do with my life and hopefully have a job lined up next year after my vent-une anniversaire.

Oh, I'm also learning French through my handy-dandy local, public broadcasting station -- le programme s'appelle "French in Action". I'm pretty sure I still suck big-time at French but whatever, at least I can pretend je suis apprender. :P

Its a bit slow at work, which I like, so I came prepared and am watching "Hable con ella" (Talk to Her), a film by Pedro Almodovar. I've heard good things about it and have been meaning to watch it so here I am, watching it sans subtitles, understanding the gist of it.

Well, I'm off to continue "working" and watching. Adieu my dears!

Feeling: working

home, french, madrid, friends
