hyperthyroid cats?

At least one, and possibly two of my cats probably have hyperthyroidism... anyone's kitties have this? The treatment options are meds twice a day forever, or one (EXPENSIVE) radiation thing, which is pretty safe and almost always cures it.

Just wondering what anyone knows about it...
