Blood! Blood! Die! Die!

So, I went to work today at 3. And at around 3:45, I was climbing the 10+ foot tall shelving unit to get some Carefresh to put out on the floor. I do this all the time...scale the unit (it's steel and wood and notched into the floor, so it won't tip over, and then grab the metal post on the side and kind of one-handed coast/swing to the floor.
Today, I grabbed the post to coast down, and my thumb ring caught on a notch in the post. Gravity kind of took care of the rest and snapped the ring in two. The metal edges more or less impaled my thumb and slashed it wide open 3/4 the way around it like a can opener. It looked a lot worse than it felt.
Sue did all my paperwork while I went and got a mop to clean up my trail of little red dots, and then she took me to the clinic, which was actually very nice and not at all shitty like people at work said it was. It beat the shit out of ReadyCare in Mt. Pleasant, when I cut my middle finger open on the condiment bar. I signed in, and when the woman noticed my finger was bleeding (it was just a trickle at that point and not the pulsating gush it had been when I first did it), she took me right away.
The most amusing part of the whole ordeal was that none of those people there seemed to know where anything was. They spent like 15 minutes hunting for gloves, hunting for needle tips, hunting for the Lidocaine. The Lidocaine was wonderful...it felt cold as they pushed it in.
Too bad they had to do it like three times. I kept feeling the needle going in. But all in all, I was in and out in there in about an hour. That'll be the best time I ever get. And they did a nice job (are you paying attention, ReadyCare?). The woman was really careful doing my stitches, didn't leave any important pieces of skin or flesh or whatever hanging out of the wound, and tied them nice and tight to make sure they don't come out before they're supposed to. They also gave me lots of gauze and wrapping so that I can change it without having to buy it myself, and they prescribed me some antibiotics. I'm kind of sorry I didn't go there for the rat bite now.

Anyway, I went back to work and went on register since there wasn't a whole lot that I could do with one hand. And it was a nice, easygoing night. I think I did pretty well in my donation round-ups and my PALS numbers. And I have tomorrow off. My mom wanted me to go to the bookstore for her and use the gift card she got for her birthday to get herself some crossword books, and she said I could get something, too. So I might pick up another copy of Kamikaze Girls, since I think I lost mine in the DVD case I left in Ohio. And maybe I'll stop by the Pita Pit and get a chicken pita like the ones I used to get all the time in Mount P.
I have a busy day ahead of me:)
But for now, the Tylenol-3 is kicking in. So I'm out.
