We went Mushroom hunting this weekend. A Nature Girl taught us some skilz and one of us picked up on it very well. (well I can at least write about it right?)
We apparently have a wonderful hunting ground for Maitake mushrooms just a couple of miles from the house. It was a wonderful warm fall afternoon with friends spent hunting and gathering. We found over 25 lbs of Maitake and actually we found more but didn't have room for it!
So... fried maitake, roasted chicken with maitake, steak with a maitake wine reduction, scrambled eggs with maitake, maitake soup (cooked by two lovely men). As our guest said 4 hours from forest to table. (That was the wonderful soup)
Life is good.
The Nature Girl said that fresh Maitakes were selling for about $30 a lb. It's fun thinking about how expensive your scrambled eggs would be in a resturant.
totally work safe...
