Had a pretty Star Treky weekend, rewatching Search for Spock, several TOS episodes, and the DS9/TOS crossover Tribble episode.
I must admit that while Spock's death in Wrath of Khan is, of course, incredibly moving, but I admit that I'm almost more choked up by the scene with Sarek and Kirk in STIII. Part of it is how they are both sharing this moment of losing Spock. Part of it is that I can't help feeling Kirk's agony over being made to relive that moment. But a lot of it is how it's directed, with the extreme close-upsof Kirk's eyes and Sarek's mouth.
And it's a combination of all of that. It's the moment where you're just seeing Kirk's eye, and he just whispers, with so much pain, "Spock..." Kills me every time.
I was having conversation with other people this weekend about early relationships with Trek, and once again, I had a slightly different relationship with it than the normal. Because while I was born several years after it originally aired, my entire life was permeatted with Trek, mostly to do with the fact that my mother was a feral fan and was obsessed with it. I grew up in a world not only where Trek was playing at least once a day on some channel in syndication, but where our TV was turned to every re-broadcast. I grew up in a house filled with Trek novels and novelizations. And when we found fandom, the zines, gen and slash, started coming in.
Because of this I don't even consider Trek a fandom, per se, because of all of this: it's a part of life. One way or another, I have never lived in a world without Trek. It's hard for me to think of it as even a good or bad thing: it just is. My life would look very different in an alternate universe without it.

On a Shatner-related note--and a Bad Remake Idea:
They are doing a big screen version of T.J. Hooker. *facepalm*

I don't even know how to classify this one:
Cowboys for Christ, the 'spiritual sequel' to Wicker Man, now filming. Well, I love the title, but...
***
Ryan Reynolds talks Deadpool. I'm actually feeling much better about this, even though he doesn't give any specifics.

Finally, Torchwood starts airing in Britain in a matter of hours! Whee!
