Oh, Vikings, I have missed you. And thanks: now I want to go back and finish the Ragnar/Athelstan post-season 2 PWP that has all the sex my OT3 Yuletide story from a year ago didn't. :-)
* They're really hitting the ground running with this, showing the various possible conflicts--both new and continued--for this season.
I am suddenly worried for Lagertha: I honestly expected her to outlive everyone, now I'm not so sure. It's not that I don't think she can take on any pipsqueak trying to usurp her authority, but she's not there. And if he manages to build a power base just because he's there to do so, it's possible.
* Aw, Bjorn, you are both your parents' child.
* Okay, really, I just want to talk about Athelstan, and the great big love triangle/tug-of-war he's at the center of between Ragnar and Ecbert. I seriously hope this doesn't prove fatal for Athelstan, though. Both Ragnar and Ecbert seem to be playing to his need to belong, to be wanted. "I trust you more than anyone" from Ragnar in Athelstan's one ear, and Ecbert's "I need you," in the other.
Yeah, this can't possibly end badly.
Nor do I see Aethelwulf's wife kissing Athelstan's stigmata going anywhere good. Aethelwulf is a True Believer AND a jealous husband? Yeah. Again, not going to work out well for Athelstan, even if he keeps it in his robes/for Ragnar.
* I keep having thoughts about Ragnar's end, and when we might see it. Last season we had Serious Foreshadowing of his death (murderer and murder weapon), but for it to happen this season, there would need to be another serious time jump, since the immediate follow-up involves Ivar the Boneless kicking some metaphorical ass alongside his brothers, and the only one he's currently capable of kicking is mom.
Then again, time jumps are kind of their thing, so it could be. But it leaves open this becoming more Rollo's story in the interim, as well as Bjorn's. And where would that leave Lagertha and Athelstan?
