* It is a GORGEOUS day this morning. My parents were obviously here a week too early.
* I didn't comment on the return of Suits. For me, I found it an odd return, mostly having to do with my own reactions to the show in general.
The problem is that there's things I absolutely love about the show, and which ping me hard: Harvey's bone-deep decency, even while he talks a good game about being ruthless; Mike's empathy; the underlying theme of loyalty; the underlying COMPETENCE of all the characters; and both Donna and Jessica being just general awesome.
Then there's the stuff that makes me squirm, namely Mike occasionally just being an idiot.
I found, though, that I have an increasingly harder time with the show's basic premise of Mike faking having a degree. It's not the idea of someone practicing law without the degree--not even all states require you to have a JD in order to take the Bar--but the fact that he faked his degree bugs the shit out of me. I feel stupid about how much it bugs me, actually, but such a large part of my RL work involves verifying people's education and dealing with people who have falsified degrees. It makes me physically uncomfortable in the weirdest way, and I always have to wrestle with that whenever I'm watching the show.
But they're just so pretty. *sigh*
* Did I comment on the third episode of Longmire? Still liking it, though I'll warn anyone who hasn't seen it and has animal-harm-sensitivity that there is harm to horses as a central plot-point of the episode. I'm not particularly sensitive to things like that (not compared to a lot of people I know, anyway: not like I LIKE to see animals hurt), and I found it uncomfortable.
If anyone comes across decent Walt/Henry slash, though, point me to it.
* Empire has a list of
The 50 Funniest Comedies Ever. It was unlikely to be the list I'd agree with (I find my liking of modern comedies seems to diminish by the year), but I love that In Bruges made it to 37, Withnail & I is 24, Shaun of the Dead at 10, and Life of Brian at 4 (and that it narrowly beat Holy Grail at 5). I also appreciate the token old comedies like Duck Soup and Bringing Up Baby being in there, though as usual in readers poll lists (and all other lists, frankly), older movies are sadly under-represented.
*
Barbarella being developed as a TV series. They say it's based on the movie, but I wonder if that's because most people don't realize it was a comic book first. I just don't know what ground they could cover that hasn't been done by Lexx, only weirder.
* Sad news:
Richard Lynch died. Trust me, if you watched TV in the 70s--or from the 70s--you'll recognize him, even if you don't know the name.
* Rec of the Day:
Avengers:
Average Avengers Local Chapter 7 of New York City--"Steve and Tony accidentally start a national do-gooders association and fall in love." Weirdly, I didn't read this one for the longest time because I thought it was an AU. It is not, however, and I love it. It's Tony/Steve, but also has nice team stuff in it (with or without Thor buying poptarts). Written pre-movie.
