That went by fast for a four day weekend

* Normally by the end of a weekend like that, I'm bored and ready to go back to work. Unfortunately, between being sick (cold which is pretty mild, but keeps threatening to move up into my head and sinuses) and such, I really could have used a longer one.

* I did NOT work on my Yuletide story, which was sad. I'm going to try to set aside time each day this week once I get home from work to do nothing but work on it, even if it's just to get a couple of hundred words down, and see how that goes. I have hopes that once I get going, I'll be able to do a lot.

* I DID watch a bunch of Firefly and eat wonderful food with Mr. and Ms.
killabeez on Thanksgiving Day before I got sick. My apologies, all, for the germ pie. (It was a rather tasty lemon germ, I thought.)

* I also got to watch two movies:

Conan the Barbarian, the new one, which I give the rating of "meh". For such a gleefully bloody movie (and it very well may be the bloodiest movie I've seen all year, and I'm including the Michael Fassbender zombie Nazi thing), it was really, really boring. Surprisingly so. Like, I'm not sure how they did that. Some interesting effects (liked the sand guys), but for the most part, we spent most of the movie heckling, and
feochadn and I tried to figure out how to explain the Gor novels to
mlyn. ("Seminal" and "psychosexually warped" came up. And "Wow, they're really hard to explain" was pretty much what we left her with, which was less than illuminating.)

Warrior, which is much quieter and slower-paced and more family-centered film, on the other hand, was much, much less boring. And really, on paper, it sounds like a straight-to-video B-movie plot: two estranged brothers enter an MMA tournament. Except it was much more about the characters, it was wonderfully compelling, and I was totally sucked in by the look of the movie as well as the performances of Tom Hardy, Joel Edgerton (and wow, has that boy filled out since Kinky Boots), and Nick Nolte. Definite thumbs up on that.

* Ken Russell has died. I can't say he was my favorite director, but there's too many scenes that come immediately to mind for me to say he didn't create some indelible images on film. I think a re-watch of Gothic or Lair of the White Witch or Women in Love is in order. Listzomania not so much.

* Star Trek 2 Warps in on May 17, 2013. And as long as I have a plain-old 2D option, I'm okay with them making it 3D. I keep telling myself that the 3D craze had about 50 years between bursts of popularity. It won't be around forever, right?

* New Prometheus picture. That's the Alien prequel. I am excited on the basis of the cast and Ridley Scott directing, alone.

* No H50 tonight: Boo!

* Rec of the Day:

Fast Five: This Space Between Us--Post-the last movie, post-Mia, post-baby. Works very well and makes me happy.
