friday i went to first friday, mainly to see the best and the brightest at the 3rd street gallery. I really dont care for most artwork, so as we went around to other places, i usually didn't even bother to go in. I usually hate art that has no purpose. The still life thing has been done to death and i dont really need to see 100 million paintings of apples and peaches. The stuff i have found most interesting lately is anything that retains an element of the human action of producing art. I guess that is why i usually dont like paintings, they end up focusing more on the finished product and only on appearance. I much rather prefer sculpture (to some extent) and drawings and obviously architecture. Nick and i were talking about how artists tend to not have any precision to their work, and that it is mostly just throwing something together.

first friday had me thinking about art and music in general. I'm getting rather sick of both. I'm sick of music because it is more of a fashion show than it is about the music. Maybe i am just burned out on shows, but the last few i went to were just ok. It seems like its less about the actual music and more about the kids, the band you are repping on your shirt and how hard you dance. i am guilty of doing some of these things too, but i am more easily annoyed by it now. some kid went to an american idol audtion and sang a silverstein song, and they were like "what the fuck are you doing here" he was like "i'm trying something different" and the judges were shocked. Nobody wants different. I am annoyed.

despite the ranting, i had a good time friday night at first friday. as well as the rest of the weekend. Too much computer work to do, but at least i'm having some fun with it. i need to finish it so that i can watch the team that isn't the stillers get destryoed in a few hours.
