the show last night was pretty fun. The esoteric played our best elvis yet, which was sweet. and calico system played the song that has something to do with star trek i think. The bands i wanted to see: the esoteric, calico system and one dead three wounded, were all really good. The bands i didn't want to see: fight paris and scarlet were pretty much terrible. Fight paris is catchy and usually i like that kind of stuff, but i just can't get into them, though they were better live than on cd. the best thing scarlet had going for them was that they abandoned that terrible rock star sign they had years ago in favor of a strobe light extravaganza that they had some nerdy guy running at the sound booth. I can't help but admit that i am getting pretty sick of the scene, or maybe just sick of certain aspects of it, who knows. A few years ago i would have loved the hell out of that show and run around all night having a good time. But lately, the more i go to shows where i dont know all the bands, or as was the case last night, where i'm not obsessed with the bands, i just end up having a mediocre time. I feel like its been so long since i saw a band that was AMAZING, that it has kept me from enjoying shows as much as i used to.
There are some good shows coming up this spring though, that i am really excited for. Reggie will be fun cuz its only 10 bucks and my boy tom is coming along. and since he is obsessed with james deweezer and having his babies, then it should be fun to watch him gawk. I am excited for silverstein because i saw them right after they put the new cd out and didn't really know the stuff yet, but this time i know the cd and i like it a lot. And spitalfield is playing and i have yet to see them and stretch armstrong is playing too. though i dont love them, they are usually pretty fun to watch. Eisley should be really fun, and the same for less than jake. Too bad i will probably have to sit through some terrible shit before those two bands play. I want to go see wu tang but i'm not sure i can spend 45 bucks on it. We'll see how that plays out. I'll probably end up going to no use for a name too, we'll see how things are going.
Tomorrow is the first day of the new semester. I'm ready for school to begin, even though i have a bunch of work left to do on the portfolio. I have about two weeks left, but the past week or so has been tough to get shit done cuz i was sleeping in late and then waking up and hanging out with my roommates who weren't busy cuz it was their first week of school. There is definitely no more time for procrastination on this portfolio, but i'm in pretty good shape. I'm at the point where everything i didn't finish probably isn't going to get finished, and i am just going to layout what i have and be done with it. I'm pretty sure i'm not going to "get the prize" for the best portfolio, and i'm pretty sure whatever i do will be good enough to get into the program, so why over exert myself. I'm just gonna do a nice, quality portfolio, with the things i want to show.
