yesterday was a pretty ridiculous day. It was probably my first intense bike ride since i got mine back. Its been about 3 months since i tried to do any really big hills and it showed. While i was doing close to 20mph on the flat i lost about half that when i got to the big hills. Sucks. Despite my unfittedness, i managed to explore a lot of northwest philadelphia. I ended up riding to chestnut hill, but didn't really explore it cuz all the roads suddenly became either really shitty or really busy. So then i rode to manayunk, went past the wall cuz i definitely didn't have the legs for it. Instead i did the hill on umbria, which was also pretty bad. I eventually made it up. after i made it up i rode out to the girls scouts headquarters, where we had out site visit last week. Everyone thought it was too far to ride to but i made it eventually. It was pretty far, out past Andorra. I came back to manayunk and flew down the hill i had worked so hard to climb up earlier, the speedometer read close to 40 mph on the way down, scary as shit. As i was coming down i saw a group of people on bikes going a way i had never really gone, so i decided to follow them. I ended up finding the valley forge trail. I never really knew how to get on it without riding the dirt path that goes through manayunk. On the other side of manayunk it becomes paved, i'm guessing it stays like that the whole way out. So i got on the trail and started riding a bit to check it out. at this point i had ridden about 27 miles or so and was starting to get tired. At one point this guy flies by me and shouts "five on your left." wierd thing was only two people passed me. About ten seconds later this girl goes flying by and yells "biker chick on your left" and gives me the hugest smile i have ever seen. I felt like she was rubbing it in that she was a girl and riding faster than me, but who knows/cares. on the valley forge path i only made it out to conshohocken, then turned around because i realized that i was about 15 miles from home and had already done 30 miles. next time i have some free time i'll do it the whole way out. So when i turned around, not only was i super tired, but i was also riding against a massive headwind the whole way back. As i was creeping back i decided that i definitely need to plan things like this out a little more, like eat a little food before i go, or pack some with me, or something. By the time i got home i was so spent i thought i would pass out. All in all it was a pretty sweet day though, i wish i had more free time, cuz if that was the case i would go out and do it again today.

We had a party last night, the turnout was pretty low. Oh well i still had fun. I'm really glad that some kids from temple came. hopefully once septa is running again i will be able to get some more to come out for our little shindigs.

i promise the next post wont be all about cycling. actually, who am i kidding... i'll probably at least mention it.
